Kick off the summer with indie rock from Canadian moondoggy
A Canadian debut awaits in early summer. The Canadian indie rock band, moondoggy, will make their debut on Danish soil with a concert at Ideal Bar, and with them they will bring a handful of recently released singles and the album Changing Seasons, Breaking Even (2024).
On "Grow Up, Move Out", "Everything is Never Enough" and "Still Not There" - all three of which are singles that landed on January 2nd of this year - the combined quartet envelops the listener in melodious folk-rock inspired tones, like driftwood on a Canadian river system.
Because in moondoggy's sound universe, rich arrangements flow with noise on the guitar, drums with laid-back propulsion, airy saxophone winds and vocal lines that oscillate between the introspective and the anthemic.
The Canadian songwriters lean sonically on genre colleagues such as The Walkmen, Real Estate and Fleet Foxes, but undoubtedly shine through as a project in their own right.
With Collingwood, Ontario as their backdrop, brothers Jakob Matanowitsch (vocals) and Ben Matanowitsch (saxophone/guitar), along with Jonny Contini (guitar) and Victor Carrillo (drums), came together in 2019 to form moondoggy. The following year, the band uprooted and settled in Toronto, where they spent the next three years honing their sound to the sound that comes out of the amp today.
On May 16th, you can kick off the summer months when moondoggy howls sweet indie-rock tones of the May moon.
