Beneath the surface of Asbjørn's beautifully crafted melodies is an abundance of polyrhythms and playful unpredictability. This is also true of Asbjørn's upcoming album The Secret Our Bodies Hold, which is a manifestation of human liberation.
The musician's performances explore vulnerability and strength together with the audience. Something he masters like few others. Playfulness, sincerity and dance go hand in hand in Asbjørn's approach to pop.
"On the album as well as on this tour, I dance my way to being vulnerable and translate movements into music, with all the wildness and unpredictability it brings - it becomes the beating heart of the show," says Asbjørn. His songs are about being a different young boy and the courage it takes to stand up for yourself.
At the age of 19, he started his own record label to preserve his creative freedom and establish a pop laboratory where polyrhythms, melancholy and electronic playfulness can collide.
Information's music editor Ralf Christensen calls him "a modern critic's wet dream", and his album is described as "heart massage for a genre in danger of losing its edge" and "an ode to everyone who doesn't fit in".
After 12 years as a pop rebel, Asbjørn's fourth album has put him on the lips of many. His show at SPOT Festival was voted one of the festival's five best concerts, he graced the cover of GAFFA and debuted at Roskilde Festival, where he was joined on stage by Brimheim. Together they sing the duet "New Moon, Same Old Me" which became P3's Uundgåelige (The inevitable of the week) over the summer. The long-awaited album The Secret Our Bodies Hold will be released on November 1st 2024 via Asbjørn's own record label, Body of Work.
