Float on electronic clouds with Laura Misch at VEGA
In October last year, English saxophonist, producer and songwriter Laura Misch released the album Sample The Sky. In the press release, she describes the compositions as floating among the milky clouds, while the lyrics centre on existentialist questions. She continues:
"Sample the Sky is an album that can be distilled as the feeling you have when you see the sky and you are in such awe that you feel compelled to photograph it and send it to someone - the moments that feel so intimate and personal yet universal, un-ownable and ephemeral."
Through organic electronic productions, embodied lyrics, atmospheric saxophone lines and velvety vocals, Laura Misch delivers pop songs to the heart.
Sample The Sky differs from the eminent songwriter's previous "bedroom-produced" releases by being recorded in collaboration with other musicians and producer William Arcane.
Lead single "Portals" is a beautiful and heartfelt song about saying goodbye and being present at a time when the world seems to be in chaos. The song is a tribute to the afterlife and to Laura Misch's grandfather who died during lockdown:
"The moment he left his body it was like he went from being there to being everywhere. That's what this song is about, on some level it's about a portal into the unknown."
This year she released her acoustic sister album Sample The Earth, which contains acoustic versions of the songs from 2023. The idea for the re-recording came after a series of concerts Laura played completely acoustic with harpist Marysia Osu. With the album, Laura Misch will try to reveal new sides of the songs when removing large parts of the production.
