Electrifying chain dance with synth magician Omar Souleyman in VEGA
In a perfect elixir of dabke, deep, pulsating electronic beats and seductive synthesizer, Syrian Omar Souleyman the melts all remains of frost from the audience's winter hearts. Spring is here to the sound of infectious, danceable techno.
Souleyman released his latest album last year, Erbil, which with it's fast-paced and hypnotic-sounding songs grabs the listener and induces dance fever in even the most shy person.
Several media outlets reviewed the release, and Resident Advisor in particular highlighted how Erbil is an album that, with Souleyman's well-known beats, puts the joy of dancing at the center.
“On Erbil, he continues to do what he's always done best: getting the party started and whipping the crowd into a frenzy.”
Symptomatic of Souleyman's musical universe – both on Erbil, but also previous releases like the debut Wenu Wenu from 2013 is – that the songs are in close dialogue with Middle Eastern tonal scales and a presence and musical nerve so great that Souleyman has over time caught the attention of names like Four Tet, Modeselektor and Diplo.
Wenu Wenu was produced by the aforementioned Four Tet and in 2017 Souleyman signed with Diplo's record label and released the album, To Syria, With Love, the same year.
Omar Souleyman's distinctive sound has taken him far and wide around the world. He has played festivals such as Roskilde Festival, Bonnaroo and Glastonbury. In 2024 he made his way to VEGA, and on April 17th he will once again call up Store VEGA for another round of electrifying chain dancing.
