Get your hips greased up for Puerto Rican Sunday reggae
From a young age, the Puerto Rican began Pachy Garcia to play guitar, but a growing interest in early Jamaican music led him to replace the six-string with piano and bass.
The musician first became interested in drums when he moved from Puerto Rico to Los Angeles, where he formed the band Prettiest Eyes and began collecting cheap recording equipment he found at thrift stores and used music stores.
With his newly acquired equipment, the Puerto Rican began recording his own music that would pay homage to the early reggae pioneers, drawing inspiration from the technicians responsible for shaping the sound of early dub reggae.
The recording process was documented on García's Instagram with videos where he records all the instruments himself and then mixes the final result.
About his latest album from 2023, he says "With Switched-On, I wanted to be more myself and be less my heroes, if that makes any sense,". Pachyman has just announced that new music is on the way.
