Scandinavian escapism with Sassy 009 in VEGA
Behind the bold artist name Sassy 009 hides Norwegian Sunniva Lindgård. Originally flanked by high school friends Teodora Georgijević and Johanna Scheie Orellana, the trio caught the attention of international media such as The Guardian, Pitchfork and The Fader in the late 10s with the releases Do You Mind and Kill Sassy 009.
With this recognition, Sassy 009 joined a number of up-and-coming Norwegian artists who, along with names like Smerz and Okay Kaya, made a name for themselves with their synth-heavy electropop around the end of the 2010s.
Since then, Sassy 009 has manifested herself as a solo project, but that doesn't mean that the music has become any less exciting. In the intersection between the chaotic and fragmented corners of hyperpop and the DIY aesthetics of bedroom pop, Sassy 009 finds her musical expression. This has paved the way for a collaboration with American Clairo, and she has also remixed for artists such as Mø, Empress Of and Agar Agar.
In September, we got new music from Sassy 009 for the first time in almost four years. "Butterflies" is the name of the first single from the upcoming album Dreamer+, which lands in January.
As the child of two classically trained musicians, it's safe to say that Sunniva Lindgård has been steeped in music since birth. Expect an artist with a mastery of her craft and serious Scandinavian escapism when Sassy 009 takes us into her vibrant pop universe at Ideal bar on February 18th.
