Step into Whispering Sons' frenetic post-punk darkness
Dark, frenetic, and experimental post-punk permeates Whispering Sons ' songs. At the forefront of the Belgian band, Fenne Kuppens' deep vocals surge, which together with a driving instrumentation leaves the listener in a state of slight unease. This unease translates into a compelling and energetic live performance.
The band's latest album, The Great Calm, follows up on Image (2018) and Several Others (2021). The third album was recorded in just four weeks split between the Audioworkx Studio in Eindhoven and a small island in the North Sea, Vlieland.
The twelve songs vibrate between strength, energy, and beauty, so the listener never has a chance to get bored. 'Dragging' is intense, 'Still' is completely intimate, and 'Poor Girl' fluctuates between the subtle and energetic, while in its lyrics it shifts perspectives and almost self-destructs in its crescendo.
