Melissa has lived through life's most unforgiving aspects and her music bears witness to that. After losing her newborn son in 2022 due to severe birth defects, she channeled her grief and hope into the song “Lay Me Down” - a deeply personal lullaby for Otis, who was never allowed to grow up.

Her debut album, Musical Hallucinations, released in 2021, is a fusion of old school jazz, R&B, funk and modern soul. The collaboration with producer Abdullah S. has resulted in a melancholic and raw sound universe that supports Melissa's powerful vocals and stories. The album is an honest exploration of topics such as mental illness, loss and love - shaped by her own turbulent experiences.

Born in Uganda and raised in Fredericia, Melissa Inya has deep roots in both her African heritage and the Danish music scene. Her journey has taken her from jazz clubs in Copenhagen to stages in Paris and Stockholm, and her mission is clear: to sing her way into listeners' souls and connect through music.
