SUMAC's almighty post-metal wreaks havoc in VEGA
The critically acclaimed tempo specialists SUMAC are back in Lille VEGA with their new album The Movie. The album is a collaboration with poet and noise artist Moor Mother. The release is a brutal alliance that deals with dark subjects in a musical pressure cooker of tonal textures.
Last year, the trio released the mighty The Healer, which received standing ovations from critics all over the world. They unanimously proclaimed the album a majestic monolith on the international post-metal scene. For an hour and sixteen minutes, the album revolves around heavy guitar riffs, white noise feedback and propulsive drum beats. Pitchfork awarded it “Best New Album” and wrote in their 8.4 rated review of the masterpiece:
"The experimental metal trio's four-song, 76-minute album is the peak of their career. It's dense and invigorating, highlighting the band's dexterity, creativity, and clarity of purpose."
SUMAC has been releasing post-metal since 2014, spinning beautiful threads for names like Isis and Russian Circles. They are known for their grandiose soundscapes, which caress genres like sludge metal, noise rock with elements of ambient. Lyrically, the band revolves around the dark sides of the individual and the spiritual aspects of love.
The band made their album debut with The Deal, which was released in 2015 and quickly inducted SUMAC into the hallowed halls of post metal.
