Happy reunion with one of Danish hip-hop's most exciting voices in Store VEGA
Since Ozzy released his first single "Samme side" in 2023, things have gone very well for the 24-year-old rapper and singer. He was originally an introverted and shy boy with a penchant for SoundCloud rap, who nerded out on music production in his room in Helsingør. Now he's on stages and in nightclubs across the country with some of Denmark's biggest artists, playing the very songs he'd been keeping in his room for years.
That contrast is the center of Ozzy's first album, when along the way he asks himself the question: Can you hold on to yourself as a withdrawn person when you are suddenly exposed to all of Denmark?
"It's been a wild few years and my life has changed a lot. Music has become my job, but basically I'm just not particularly hip-hop-inclined. I had to learn to be on stage from scratch, and I would much rather be at home than be in a nightclub. So it's really required me to get out of my comfort zone to be a full-time artist," Ozzy says in a press release.
With Hyben as an allegory for someone who must break out of their shell and become a rose, the album is thematically and sonically divided into an A and B-side. On the A-side, the sound is trap-heavy and with a lyricism that testifies to a self-conscious Ozzy, who in his attempt to live up to people's expectations, is about to break down. On the B-side, the album suddenly moves in a much more pop and romantic direction, where stories of love and family take over the lyrical universe.
The last time Ozzy visited Store VEGA, it was a huge success for sold-out venues. The rap star wants to repeat that success when VEGA forms the setting for an explosive end to an extensive spring tour.
