New Zealand indie unique takes over VEGA
If you've ever experienced Aldous Harding live, you know that she thrives at the intersection of the emotional, the entertaining and the performative. The New Zealand singer-songwriter's concerts are unique experiences that excite the senses and brain cells with their alternation between quirky moves, artistic pauses, infectious musicality and intimate presence.
Harding's big breakthrough came in 2019 with her third studio album, Designer, released internationally via 4AD (Big Thief, US Girls, Dry Cleaning). The album's symbol-laden lyrics and artful compositions, which sit somewhere between laid-back '70s folk and contemporary indie pop, received 5 out of 5 stars in The Independent, 4 out of 5 stars in The Guardian, while Pitchfork gave her a whopping 8.0, praising her "delicately built and beautifully rendered songs."
In 2022, the follow-up Warm Chris was released, recorded in the company of, among others, PJ Harvey's partner John Parish, which went to number 1 on the album chart in his homeland. Here, Aldous Harding successfully expands his expression with inspiration from, among others, baroque pop, psychedelia and freak folk, which Pitchfork rewarded with a score of 8.2 and the coveted "Best New Music" award.
Media such as the New York Times, NME, Uncut and Mojo also responded with glowing reviews. Danish music fans have been able to experience Aldous Harding's aforementioned exceptional live skills several times before.
She has performed at Roskilde Festival and in Store VEGA and DR Koncerthuset – the latter concert in 2019 awarded GAFFA with a maximum of 6 stars!
If you haven't yet witnessed the New Zealand indie unique live, fortunately the chance is there this summer, when Aldous Harding takes over Store VEGA's beautiful hall on June 17th.
